Family Fun Area

The Reisterstown Festival prides itself on being a family-friendly festival for the whole community to enjoy, and is happy to again offer our popular Family Fun Area with a variety of fun for children of all ages!  This area is adjacent to Sunshine Playground before you go down the hill to the Main Festival Area (with Beer Garden and live music, vendors, etc.)  There's a sidewalk at the back of the Family Fun Area that leads the way to the Main Area, or you can take a free shuttle - just wave to Festival Shuttle driver anywhere along the park road to go down or up - or to your if car parked onsite!).  Please note that most of these activities end at 5pm both days so arrive early to see it all!



Aspen Run Alpacas


 Aspen Run Alpaca Farm is a small family owned alpaca farm in Carroll County, Maryland.  They started in June 2013 with 4 alpacas and 1 llama.  The fall of 2013 they added 2 more alpacas and in summer 2016 they added 3 more alpacas.  They now have 6 Huacaya and 3 Suri alpacas and our guard llama Buster.  The Farm will bring some of these animals for the Festival attendees to see and meet.  They will also have a booth at the festival where you can buy alpaca-related clothing, crafts and other items.




Candyland Petting & Learning Farm (Petting Zoo)

pettingzooA wide array of animals will be on-hand for all the family to see and touch including sheep, goats, a mini-horse, a mini-donkey, ducks, peacock, turkey, calf, alpaca, and rabbits. (12-5pm both days)


**Special Feature for 2017!!** Military Display Featuring U.S. Army Black Hawk Helicopter!!

9/6/17 Update:  We've been informed the Black Hawk helicopter has been called on a mission, and will not be able to appear this year  We regret any inconvenience, and are committed to working with the U.S. Army to reschedule this next year!  Other military equipment will still be present!

On Hannah More Park's upper baseball field behind the playground, you'll have an extraordinary special opportunity to see military equipment like your family may have never seen.  Thanks to the U.S. Army, an actual in-service UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter will be landing on this field on Saturday only (after a fly-over of the Reisterstown Festival Parade!!!) and taking off in the afternoon.  While it's at the Festival site through mid-afternoon Saturday, you'll be able to see it up close and in-person and maybe even get a chance to step on board.  The pilot and crew will be here to answer questions and talk with you - they are even setting up a temporary encampment.  A rare exclusive treat for everyone!  There will also be other very cool, real military vehicles and equipment (and those are all weekend):

Kenpo Karate Demonstrations by American Kenpo Karate

KenpostudentsAll weekend, you can see trained Kenpo karate demonstrations with spectacular skill and power.  See self-defense maneuvers performed by American Kenpo Karate Studio members and instructors.  The Studio is a multi-year participant and Family Fun Area sponsor, and their events are always fun for all!


Drama Kids (Sunday Only)

dramakidsDrama Kids International of Central Maryland is run by Directors Jennifer and Robert Jarrett. Their goal is simple; they want to provide the youth in our communities the opportunity to develop the skills of confident communication leveraging the fun activities found in Drama.  Drama Kids has been developing confidence, speaking skills, and acting abilities in children throughout the world for over 30 years! The Drama Kids afterschool program and summer camps are specially designed to build self-confidence and character, as well as strong speaking, literacy, and acting skills through the fun and creativity of drama. Drama Kids of Central Maryland serves children in the Towson, Timonium, Pikesville, Owings Mills, Reisterstown, and Westminster areas. Young performers from Drama Kids will be showing off their natural talents along with the skills they've learned in this program!


Eric Energy & His Slime Show (Saturday Only)

Eric EnergyEric Energy is the premier science entertainer in the Baltimore/Washington area. With over 16 years of classroom, camp and stage experience, Eric and his team are masters at bringing scientific concepts to young audiences and making learning fun.  For the Festival, he will be presenting his Slime Show a show that focuses on atoms, molecules and polymers. Each audience member will get a chance, at the end, to touch the mixtures made in the show!

Excellent Productions (Saturday Only)

This local program for youth is a community performance group run by retired teachers and educators. They will perform a few songs for for the Family Fun Area crowd and include a keyboard, trumpet and drums.

Harbor City Chorus (Saturday Only)

HarborCity_ChorusHarbor City Chorus is a Men's Barbershop Chorus located in Towson, MD, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  They've been bringing Barbershop harmony to the Baltimore area since 1944.  This group specializes in men's a cappella harmonies and is affiliated with the Baltimore Harmony Society.  On Saturday 9/9, you can catch the group strolling the festival site and singing in the Family Fun Area.  They have performed at the Reisterstown Festival for the past 2 years, and have been enjoyed by all.  We're thrilled to have them return!  


Karen Sachs Dance Academy (Saturday Only)

karen sachs danceKaren Sachs is the Director of Karen Sachs Academy of Dance in Reisterstown.  She has performed professionally across the country in various summer stock productions, nightclubs, dinner theaters and industrial shows, including the New York World's Fair and the Copacabana. Her television credits include the Sonny and Cher Show, Laugh-In, That's Life (with Robert Morse) the Don Adams Special, and the Ann-Margaret Special, among others. She toured extensively with Jimmy Durante throughout California and in Las Vegas and was also a part of Jim Nabors and Arthur Godfrey's nightclub acts. She attended the American Musical Dramatic Academy and Dance Educators of America, both in New York.  Dancers from the Academy will be performing. 


Meki's Tamure Polynesian Dance Group (Sunday Only)

Meki Tamure Polynesian Dance GroupThis group will do a 45 minute performance of songs and dances from several Polynesian islands and include lots of audience interaction and an audience participation segment.  Check out this video to preview them in action!

Rocket Reba Science Spectacular (Sunday Only)

Reba Goodall (aka Rocket Reba), part of the Eric Energy team also providing our Slime Shows, has been working with children since 2006. She discovered her love for children working as a volunteer in her son's Mommy & Me educational program and went on to work as a children's party host and finally the coordinator for events and parties at a local children's salon. She prides herself on her "get down on the floor" hands-on approach with kids to fully engage them.

Families: Also Check out the Old Bay Circus Company on the Main Field!

See circus performers offer various interactive and solo activities which may include juggling, stilt walking, unicycle riding, tightrope walking, rolla bolla, walking globe, clowning, acrobatics, aerial arts, etc. The performers come from Michael Rosman's Circus Camp which is a summer camp for children, ages 7-15, that operates at multiple locations throughout Maryland including nearby locations in Owings Mills and Westminster. You can also see these folks - stilt walkers and more - in the Festival Parade on Saturday!!
