The Reisterstown Festival thanks Securityplus Federal Credit Untion for sponsoring this year’s fireworks show!

Fireworks

The Reisterstown Festival presents one of the biggest and most spectacular annual fireworks shows in the area each year. This long-running festival tradition is held on the Festival's Saturday night at approximately 8:45pm while the headlining band on the Main Stage and the adjacent Beer Garden are rockin' in full swing! In recent years, we've restored the festival's early-year tradition of bringing nationally-recognized and acclaimed touring bands to Reisterstown to headline Saturday night. Headliner bands put on a full 2 hour show, and they've been knocked out of the park by the James Brown Dance Party, Donna the Buffalo, and the Ron Holloway Band in the past few years. (Celebrity headliners in the past -i.e., the 80's to mid-90's- included Kenny Chesney, America, Three Dog Night, and many others.) So bring your friends and family out to the Festival early on Saturday to enjoy all the great food, family fun, exhibits, activities, shopping, games, live music, and entertainment, and then stick around for the final act and highlights of the day - this spectacular display of "top-shelf" fireworks and music! It's the biggest party of the year in Reisterstown, there's no admission charge, and everyone is welcome!

A New Orleans-Style Second Line Parade Led by The Naptown Brass Band! (Sunday 9/9, 11am)

If you don’t know much about New Orleans, you may not of heard of the term “second-line parade”, but it’s such a great, fun tradition, we’ve arranged to bring one to you!  The Naptown Brass Band, based in Annapolis, is a traditional New Orleans-style brass band that would lead one of these parades in the “Crescent City”.  They’ll be in front, thus the first line of the parade, and provide danceable fun march songs to make it festive for those who follow. Those that do, the  “second-line”, celebrate and march along to the beat and joy of the brass band – however one wants to do.  This second line is made up of members of the community or gathering that is hosting or attending the parade – in our case, that will be folks like you who show up participate in what is very likely Reisterstown’s first-ever second line parade!  In New Orleans, these parades have long traditions of being held at both weddings and funerals (Funerals in general tend to be more celebratory of the deceased in New Orleans than in other parts of the U.S.),  In our case, we’ll just be uniquely celebrating our long-running annual community gathering: The Reisterstown Festival!  The parade route will follow the central road through the park from just outside the Family Fun Area down to the Main Stage.  This fun will not last long (perhaps 20 minutes) so be sure to arrive in time to start promptly at 11!  The band will continue playing immediately after the parade with a half hour set on the Main Stage.  Watch this quick video to get a great sense and description of second line parades!

Circus Shows by Old Bay Circus Company!

This very popular and entertaining Festival feature returns once again for 2018!  See circus performers offer various interactive and solo activities which may include juggling, stilt walking, unicycle riding, tightrope walking, rolla bolla, walking globe, clowning, acrobatics, aerial arts, etc. The performers come from Michael Rosman’s Circus Camp which is a summer camp for children, ages 7-15, that operates at multiple locations throughout Maryland including nearby locations in Owings Mills and Westminster. You can also see these performers – stilt walkers and more – in the Festival Parade on Saturday!!  These are fun performers, so don’t miss checking them out on the Lower Main Field – 3 shows Saturday and 2 Sunday.

Star-Spangled Banner Performance! (Saturday 9/8, 12pm)

Continuing a Festival tradition, we will have a local resident singing the National Anthem at the Main Stage (Lower Main Field). This year’s anthem will be sung by Emily Signor!  Emily is a junior at Franklin High School, where she loves performing in school plays and musicals, taking performing arts classes, and spending time with her friends. In college, she intends to foster her love for the arts by studying musical theater. Emily has been trained in many styles of dance, but her favorite is tap. She has danced competitively with Karen Sachs Academy of Dance since the age of five. However, last year, she made the decision to focus on her musical theater aspirations, and therefore could no longer dance competitively. Emily has been in many productions over the years with multiple theatre companies. Some of her local credits include Carolyn in Bridges of Madison County at Dundalk Community Theater; Annie in Annie and Molly Aster in Peter and The Starcatcher at Franklin High School; and she has also performed in Shrek the Musical, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Hello, Dolly! with Glyndon Area Players. Emily was honored to receive a 2017 Cappie Award for Lead Actress in a Play, for her portrayal of Molly Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher. She also received two 2018 Cappie Nominations for Female Vocalist and Choreographer for Annie. Emily is very excited and grateful for being given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem!
